Biography
Jerome J. Cura, Ph.D., LSP

Expertise

Dr. Jerome Cura, trained as a biological oceanographer, has worked as an environmental consultant since 1979.  During the past thirty years, he has conducted assessments at: power plants, industrial dischargers, capital dredging project sites, state hazardous waste sites, Manufactured Gas Plant Sites, RCRA sites, and CERCLA sites.  He has provided expert testimony, deposition, and expert advice and reports concerning landfill discharges to freshwater systems, power plant siting, mercury exposures in estuarine environments, and chromium discharges to marine systems.    Dr. Cura is a Licensed Site Professional in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

He is a nationally recognized expert on the design and execution of ecological risk analysis to help in the development of sediment dredging and other remedial decisions.

He is especially active in developing and encouraging the use of risk based analyses in the decision making process.  He developed national guidance for the design of risk assessments at dredged material sites (for the United States Army Corps of Engineers.  He has has recently published international guidance as the Chair and US Principal Representative to an international working group to develop risk based methods for assessing disposal of dredged material in marine and aquatic environments.  He is currently serving on the State of Connecticut Workgroup to develop ecological risk assessment protocols for the Connecticut Licensed Site Professional program.
